The Edwards EMF20 Oil Mist Filter is an efficient and reliable exhaust filtration solution designed for Edwards RV12, E1M18, and E2M18 series rotary vane pumps. It effectively captures oil mist and odors with 99.999% efficiency, ensuring workplace compliance with health and safety regulations (like COSHH), and features a sight glass and safety relief valve for safe, easy maintenance.
In laboratory, industrial, and research environments, vacuum pumps are central to many critical processes. However, the oil mist they emit during operation poses significant risks to personnel health, equipment longevity, and environmental cleanliness. The Edwards EMF20 Oil Mist Filter is a high-performance solution designed to solve this problem, providing comprehensive protection for your Edwards RV12, E1M18, and E2M18 vacuum pumps.
The Edwards EMF20 (Part Number: A462-29-000) is an exhaust oil mist filter installed on the outlet of vacuum pumps. It efficiently captures fine oil mist particles and oil vapor emitted by the pump, with a filtration efficiency of 99.999% (DOP test), ensuring clean exhaust gas and compliance with stringent health and safety regulations like COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
Its robust plastic construction is lightweight and durable. The semi-transparent lower body allows direct visual monitoring of the internal oil level for easy maintenance. The filter assembly kit includes all necessary components for straightforward installation, making it the ideal choice for protecting your investment and maintaining workplace safety.
Exceptional Filtration Efficiency: Uses an epoxy-impregnated glass fiber oil element for 99.999% efficiency in removing oil mist, virtually eliminating visible mist.
Effective Odor Removal: The built-in activated carbon odor element adsorbs volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and unpleasant oil vapors, improving the working environment.
Compliant with Safety Regulations: Designed to meet requirements for controlling hazardous emissions under regulations like COSHH and OSHA.
Integrated Safety Mechanism: A built-in pressure relief valve automatically opens if the oil element becomes blocked, preventing excessive pump backpressure and ensuring safe pump operation.
Sight Glass for Monitoring: The white semi-transparent lower bowl allows easy visual monitoring of accumulated oil, indicating when emptying or maintenance is required.
Azide Proof: The filter is designed for safe use in applications involving azides, offering higher chemical compatibility and safety.
Ready to Install: The kit includes an NW25 (KF25) clamp, centering ring, O-ring, NW25 to 3/4" BSP male adapter, 1 oil element, and 1 odor element – ready for installation out of the box.

1. Which vacuum pump models is the EMF20 filter compatible with?
It is designed for Edwards RV12, E1M18, and E2M18 rotary vane vacuum pumps, and is also compatible with all Edwards rotary vane pumps up to and including the E2M18 model.
2. What is the port size of the filter?
Both the inlet and outlet use standard ISO KF25 (also known as NW25) flange connections.
3. What components are included in the package?
The kit includes: the EMF20 filter body, NW25 clamp, centering ring, O-ring, one NW25 to 3/4" BSP male adapter, one pre-installed oil element, and one pre-installed odor element.
4. How often do I need to replace the filter elements?
The replacement interval depends on pump usage frequency and operating environment. The oil element typically needs replacement when the oil level in the bowl is too high, or if visible mist is seen at the exhaust. The odor element is generally replaced every second oil element change, or based on odor presence.
5. Where can I buy replacement filter elements?
The replacement oil element part number is A223-04-199. The replacement odor element part number is A223-04-077. These can be purchased from Edwards authorized distributors, laboratory equipment suppliers, or our website.
6. What happens if the filter element becomes blocked?
The EMF20 features a built-in pressure relief valve. If the oil element becomes blocked causing internal pressure to rise, this valve opens automatically, allowing airflow to bypass the element and protecting your vacuum pump from damage due to excessive backpressure.
7. What does "Azide Proof" mean?
This means the filter's materials and design can safely handle applications where explosive azide compounds might be generated (e.g., certain chemical reactions), providing a higher safety rating.
8. Does this filter remove all odors?
The activated carbon element effectively reduces most oil vapors and chemical odors but cannot remove 100% of all strong or specific gas molecules. For specific toxic gases, additional dedicated exhaust treatment systems are required.
9. Is installation complicated?
Installation is very straightforward. Simply connect the filter to the pump's exhaust port via the KF25 ports and secure it with the provided clamp. The included BSP adapter can be used if connection to external piping is needed.
10. Does using this filter affect vacuum pump performance?
When the element is clean, the impact on the pump's ultimate vacuum and pumping speed is minimal. As the element becomes saturated, it creates flow resistance, which is the signal to replace the element. The built-in safety valve ensures pump performance is not severely compromised.
The Edwards EMF20 Oil Mist Filter (A462-29-000) is more than just an accessory; it is a critical investment in personnel health, environmental safety, and equipment protection. Its superior filtration efficiency, reliable safety features, and convenient maintenance design make it an essential product for all users of Edwards RV12, E1M18, and E2M18 vacuum pumps. Invest in an EMF20 filter to create a cleaner, safer, and more compliant workspace.
